圖中的珊瑚共生藤壺名為班氏石鑿藤壺，顏色十分漂亮，就像一張阿凡達的臉，與珊瑚有互利共生的關係。研究團隊發現，不同演化源頭之珊瑚共生的藤壺，藤壺幼體皆會發展出很尖銳像矛狀的附著器，以利牠們刺進珊瑚體內發展成為成年所藤壺，此為適應進化的一例。
The name of this coral barnacle species is Berndtia purpurea, which has a color pattern resembling the face of an Avatar. Our research showed that coral-associated barnacles from different evolutionary origins all evolve to have sharp spear-shaped settlement organs to enter the body of the coral to start their symbiotic life. This is an example of adaptive evolution.
